Authentic NY-style bagel shop planned for downtown

Starship Bagel – an authentic artisanal bagel shop that sells New York-style bagels, lox, shmears, and coffee – will open at 1520 Elm Street here in Dallas next year.

Owner Oren Salomon opened the first Starship Bagel in 2021 in Lewisville, using premium ingredients and mixing them in small batches of classic varieties such as plain, poppyseed, sesame, salt, garlic, and zaatar. All the business’s bagels are vegan except the egg bagel, and the company makes its own vegan shmears.

The Starship sources its coffee from top-rated Arkansas-based roaster Onyx Coffee Lab, and its lox comes from Acme Smoked Fish Corp., which is based out of Brooklyn.

New cafés and restaurants frequently turn to flyer printing services to spread the word about their opening, as well as distribute coupons to entice the public to try them out.

Since the business started it has been not only selling bagels on site but has also established a wide-ranging delivery program that delivers freshly made bagels to 15 cafes throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The shop in downtown Dallas will occupy the old Café Strada site and will primarily comprise a walk-up counter and outdoor patio seating.

Salomon is quoted at dallasculturemap.com as saying:

"Bagels demand a high foot-traffic walk-up culture, and downtown Dallas is the best neighborhood in DFW to match the tone of bagels."

Salomon anticipates an early 2023 opening date.
