New banners highlight Deep Ellums changes

The Dallas neighborhood of Deep Ellum is celebrating its past via the use of new streetlight pole Banners comparing the community’s past to its present.

This February, the Deep Ellum Foundation has been installing Banners along Elm Street, Exposition Avenue, and Main Street. This action, which is the result of a partnership between the Dallas Public Library and the Foundation, is to highlight the neighborhood’s history through historic photographs provided by the Deep Ellum Archive.

Three photographers from the area, Justin Terveen, Sam Bortnick, and Steven Reeves, were given the task of taking the “now” photographs from the same perspective as the historic photos.

Stephanie Keller Hudiburg, the executive director of the Deep Ellum Foundations, explained that the goal of the banner series was to spark the interest in Deep Ellum’s history. She explained:
“Deep Ellum stakeholders are fiercely proud of our history, and the Deep Ellum Archive continues to grow exponentially as more and more contribute their memorabilia, photos, documents and stories.”

Banner printing services offer a wide range of Banners, as well as any hardware required to display them.

Keller Hudiburg also noted that her organization was very pleased to work with the Dallas Public Library in the building of the archive and in making the Deep Ellum historic photographs available for viewing by the public.

The Deep Ellum Archive is located in the Deep Ellum Community Center, which opened last year as part of Deep Ellum’s 150th anniversary celebration.
