The project was spearheaded in part by Jesse Moreno, a member of the Dallas City Council. He has expressed the opinion that Ross Avenue is the ideal location for the project, saying:
“I really envision Ross as the Main Street of Dallas, connecting various neighborhoods from Knox Henderson and Greenville to the Arts District. We have so many unique communities along the path that will benefit from this."
Print shops provide a variety of signage for road construction projects.
The existing sidewalk on Ross Avenue’s north side will be replaced with the new 10-12-foot-wide shared-use path, which will be close to twice the size of the usual 6-foot-wide sidewalk. To make this possible Ross Avenue will have to be reduced from its current five lanes to a four-lane roadway. Additionally, a new median will be installed as a buffer for left turn safety at cross streets.
According to Kristopher Johnson, the city’s project manager, although current funding is not sufficient to allow for the construction of a new streetcar line, the outside lanes will be built 13 feet wide to allow for buses and a potential future streetcar.
Pending project approval, construction may begin as soon as March 2025 for the shared-use path.
