Deep Ellum to welcome eatery with connecting speakeasy

Neon Kitten Izakaya is bringing dim sum to Deep Ellum in the former Beauty Bar space at 2805 Main Street, along with its own private speakeasy tucked away in the back.

Dim sum in the U.S. is dumplings along with other small plates of food offered to diners via hand-pushed carts. Speakeasies date back to prohibition and are small bars usually hidden away within another establishment.

Veterans of the food and drink industry, Bhuvanesh “Bob” Khanna and Vik Katoch are behind this unique and ambitious venture. Khanna came to Dallas in 2019 from Nashville to work as general manager of Hall Arts Hotel, located in the Arts District. Katoch has served as a chef at a variety of international hotels, mostly recently at the Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre.

The Beauty Bar closed in October 2020 and the extensive footprint of the venue enables the inclusion of Blackbird Society, a separate speakeasy in the back of the building. Blackbird Society will feature local musicians and artists, which will fulfill a goal of the owners to support local talent.

Poster and flyer printing services offer an effective means to inform the public of when special entertainment is available, as well as who will be performing.

Khanna and Katoch hope to open Neon Kitten in August. Currently, chef candidates are being interviewed, renovations are underway, and the menu is still in development.
