It took almost two years, but now a Dallas neighborhood has its first low-cost option for those who need a place to lay their head – the Deep Ellum Hostel.
The establishment has 72 beds spread out among 14 rooms and is situated at 2801 Elm Street. For a nightly average of $40, travelers receive a dorm-style bed, a reading light next to it and an outlet. Additionally, guests have access to a communal kitchen 24 hours a day, a dining room, bathrooms, and showers.
Co-proprietors Kent Roth and Collin Ballard have hostel-running experience; they operate Austin’s second hostel called the Firehouse Hostel near Brazos and 6th Street. Since Austin now has at least six hostels, the pair feel it stands to reason that Dallas, with two airports and various international flights, will have at least an equal demand.
The Dallas Morning News reports that the building the Deep Ellum Hostel occupies is over one hundred years old and has during its lifetime been used as a saloon, a syrup plant, and a car repair shop. The partners have done an excellent job of keeping the structure’s vintage charm.
New enterprises often use a banner printing service to garner attention, especially if a grand opening is being held.
The Deep Ellum Hostel will host a grand opening at 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm tomorrow, July 19. Attendees can tour the hostel and will receive complimentary refreshments.
