A gift of $15 million was recently donated by G. Marlyne Sexton, a Broadway producer and philanthropist, to the Meadows School of the Arts in Dallas. Sexton’s donation will fund both the G. Marlyne Sexton Institute for Musical Theatre, as well as providing funds for operations to start the 2023-2024 school year.
The former associate artistic director for the Dallas Theater Center, Joel Ferrell, has been named as the new institutes’ first director. Students will have the chance to earn a theatre BFA with a musical theater specialization. Specializations are already available in theater and acting studies.
Brochure printing services are often used by post-secondary institutions to apprise potential students of what a school has to offer.
The Meadows dean, Samuel S. Holland, explained that:
“Marlyne Sexton’s gift will help SMU attract artistic and talented performers and help us achieve our goal of becoming nationally competitive in this discipline within five years of launching the program.”
Sexton, who has worked in the funding and producing of Broadway productions, both in London and New York, is a strong supporter of SMU Meadows and the parent of Nicole Sexton and Tracy Copeland both SMU alumnae.
