Work on Texas 114 to begin soon

This fall, another lane in each direction will be added to Texas 114 immediately west of Southlake where the highway narrows.

Michelle Releford, spokesperson for the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT), explained that expanding the number of lanes on Texas 114, running west from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, was in response to the phenomenal growth experienced in this area. Releford further explained:

"They're going to build from the inside. It'll be inconvenient for the motorists, but it will be better because we're building on right-of-way we already have."

Fixing overcrowded roads can be a boost to a local economy and, ironically, create new traffic challenges. It encourages nearby development and provides an incentive for businesses to locate in the vicinity. Better roads mean more jobs at every level, with the construction of office buildings leading to an uptick in the need for business card printing, fast food restaurants, and more gas stations.

At the site where Charles Schwab has a major corporate campus planned, TXDOT will be creating a highway interchange for Texas 170 and Texas 114. Both the extra lanes and interchange are anticipated to be completed in two years, at which time TXDOT expects to be constructing an overpass at U.S. 377 along Texas 114. The overpass is to enable the elimination of a traffic light, which is currently impeding traffic.
