Founded by Frank Ridout in 2019, Frankly Good, a Dallas startup specializing in vegan cookies was among six teams awarded a $15,000 grant as winner of the MayPitch competition.
Ridout began his quest for good vegan cookies after converting to a plant-based diet, yet still wanting sweets. Apparently, vegan cakes and muffins are not too difficult to create; however, vegan cookies have presented unique challenges, such as creating a crispy outside while also having a soft interior.
Frank ran his company as a sideline but with the help of Andrea Ridout, his mother and partner it quickly grew. Between Andrea’s entrepreneurial experience and the farmers markets and online ordering sales, Frank’s company has evolved into a viable full-time venture.
The absence of a brick and mortar stores for start-ups can be mitigated to some degree by well-crafted Business Cards.
Frankly Good sells cookies, cookie dough, candied pecans and brittle. In addition to the products being vegan, sugar cane is used to create the Packaging, making it compostable.
Being locally made, Ridout’s products became a popular item at farmers markets plus consumers can order from the company’s website. Around 50 percent of their sales are the result of food delivery services such as Turn, Profound Foods and A Table.
Held by The University of Texas at Arlington, all winners of MayPitch will go on to compete in August for an additional $25,000 grant.
