Tex-Mex jefe of Dallas to open namesake restaurant
The name Eddie Cervantes is known by many in culinary circles and to those who deeply appreciate good Tex-Mex in Dallas, and with the opening of a new eatery it will gain even more recognition.
Cervantes was Primo’s, original owner and it developed a following due to its late hours, low-cost margaritas and reliably good Tex-Mex food. The restaurant was particularly popular with late-night revelers and those getting off the late shift, included food service workers, among which were up-and-coming chefs.
His McKinney Avenue establishment’s success followed him when he left to open the cozy East Dallas E-Bar Tex-Mex. Now those fans and some new ones will find him on Greenville Avenue at Eddie’s Tex-Mex Cocina, his latest E-Bar spinoff.
New eating establishments take off more quickly with their own unique logo design.
Eddie’s Tex-Mex Cocina will be in the space formerly occupied by Old Tacos Mariachi. It will feature E-Bar’s menu of quintessential enchiladas, tacos and nachos with queso so good the CultureMap 2020 Tastemaker Awards gave it first place in the Best Queso category plus.
HQI Contractors began construction March 8 and the new restaurant is expected to open in late spring when it should be warm enough for patrons to enjoy its "comfortable and casual” patio.
Eddie’s will be open early on Saturdays and Sundays for brunch, with frozen bellinis available on the weekends.
