Known for gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, Ruthie’s Fueled for Good food truck is expanding its reach by adding a permanent space – Ruthie’s Café in South Dallas on MLK Jr. Boulevard.
Fueled for Good has proved to be a hugely popular truck since it began rolling through Dallas in 2011. Both the truck and planned-for Ruthie’s Café are the creation of Ashlee Hunt Kleinert, who founded Dallas Doing Good and along with her husband Chris is the co-founder of the Good Foundation. Nonprofits like these utilize printing services for the same reasons businesses do.
The historic building that will house Ruthie’s Café was built in 1913 and after having sat vacant for a number of years was acquired by Community Center and St. Philip’s School in 2018 with the intent to revitalize it. The 12,000 square-foot space was part of the Catalyst Project by TREC Community Investors, as part of an effort to improve the South Dallas Forest District.
Although Ruthie’s Café’s menu will include signature dishes made popular by the food truck, it will also offer an expanded menu that includes breakfast sandwiches, eggs, salads, soups, fruit and yogurt, tots, and vegan meals.
Ruthie’s Fueled for Good devotees need have no fear that their favorite food truck is disappearing. It will continue traveling throughout the city and catering events will still be a big contributor to its business.
Ruthie’s Café is anticipated to open in the fall between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
