The Texas State Fair’s Grand Champion steer sold for a record-breaking price of $112,000, which was $2,000 more than last year’s Grand Champion.
Payton Herzog’s steer, Buzz, gave the family a two-day thrill ride that culminated in his record breaking sale price at the State Fair of Texas’ youth livestock auction.
The livestock auction, of which Friday, October 3 was the 66th, benefits the State Fair’s college scholarship fund. In the market category, 2,200 entries were whittled down to 256 by the judges to be sold.
Buzz, the soon-to-be Grand Champion, 1,330lb British shorthorn joined other champion steers as well as chickens, goats, lambs, and pigs at Friday’s auction, where Dallas’ III Forks steakhouse purchased the Grand Champion for $112,000. The 2013 Grand Champion, Corndog, belonging to 10-year-old Paige Martin, was purchased by the same buyer last year for $110,000.
Participation in an auction such as this one is something a company will ask their Stationery printer to include wherever possible in their printed materials, as it comes with plenty of prestige in the area.
Of this year’s $112,000 winning bid, Payton will receive $30,000 with the remainder added to the fair’s scholarship fund. As for Buzz, he gets a happy ending as well. He will join last year’s champion, Corndog, living out his life on a ranch.Get a Free Quote for Stationery
