Parkland donation boosts city trails system

A major donation to the city of Dallas by Oncor Electric Delivery will enable the completion of the Trinity Forest Spine Trail, as well as the walk and bike trail project called The Loop.

According to a recent release, the donation is the result of efforts between the city of Dallas, Oncor, and the nonprofit Circuit Trail Conservancy, the latter of which is overseeing 50-mile The Loop. Upon completion, the Loop will be a citywide pedestrian and bike system that connects 39 miles of existing trails and 11 miles of newly built ones to connect the north, south, east and west parts of the city.

Maps detailing trails, particularly for a large trail system, are always appreciated and are usually included in materials sent to brochure printing services by chambers of commerce.

The nine-mile Trinity Forest Spine Trail, which is critical to finishing The Loop, is mostly inside the floodplain of the White Rock Creek. It links White Rock Lake and the Great Trinity Forest, and is included in Oncor’s gift.

Last month, the Department of Transportation Circuit Trail Conservancy was presented with a federal grant in the amount of $12m from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grant will be used for phase-III construction of the Trinity Forest Spine Trail, a four-mile shared path connecting the Lake June DART Station and Lawnview DART Station.
