Art lovers have been unable to visit the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) due to the pandemic, but museum officials have come up with a plan to keep their fellow art enthusiasts engaged.
The DMA put together a curated list of outdoor artworks the public can appreciate from the comfort of their own car. This self-guided public art tour ensures social distancing while allowing the public to see how various artists have enhanced parts of the city. Print shops can supply a wide range of customized items for such curations, including inexpensive Menus and maps.
The tour starts in the heart of Dallas at the DMA with Mark Di Suvero’s 12,000-pound, bright-red steel sculpture, titled Ave. From there, “mobile patrons” can continue with their discovery of the other 12 works of art scattered outdoors throughout the city. Included in the tour are murals, sculptures, and memorials.
Tour participants will be able to do more than just look; they can learn fun facts and absorb tidbits of information that will provide context to the art on display. For instance, Di Suvero’s massive sculpture was created in 1973 and originally stood outside the doorway of the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts at Fair Park. It was eventually moved to its current position on Ross Avenue Plaza to mark the DMA entrance following its move to the center of the Dallas Arts District.
