Dallas area parks to receive $3.25 million from state

Of the $30.9 million the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission is distributing to parks across Texas, $3.25 million is designated for four parks in the immediate Dallas area.

Three variety of grants were allocated based on population. For cities with populations exceeding 500,000 an urban outdoor recreation grant was awarded; non-urban outdoor recreation grants were made available for those cities with populations less than 500,000; and for those communities of less than 20,000 people a recreation grant was given. In all, 50 community parks in Texas received grants.

When a programme benefits nonprofits and public works it can be worth advertising the benefits or the work done with poster printing in the local area.

According to a press release funding is on a 50-50 reimbursement match basis and also stated:

"Once funded, the sites must remain parkland in perpetuity, properly maintained and open to the public."

Dallas’ Marcus Recreation Center was eligible for an urban outdoor grant in the amount of $1 million for renovations, the other Dallas-area parks to receive funds were awarded non-urban outdoor grants in the amount of $750,000 each, which will among other things pay for signage, a pavilion, native landscaping, trails and site amenities.

These include Flower Mound’s Trotter Park for an inclusive playground, native landscaping, shade and picnic facilities; and Hooten Park in Caddo Mills for a shaded inclusive playground and irrigated sports fields. In Grapevine’s Settlers Park the money will be used for the phase two boardwalk/pier development, primitive camping area, kayak launch, trail expansion and lighting and fishing pier extension.
