Crews cutting it close with DISD construction

In North Oak Cliff, construction crews are working feverishly to finish up work on Greiner Middle School in time for

the first day of school.

Greiner is one of the largest middle schools in Texas with 1,500 students. Due to growth in the surrounding neighborhood of North Oak Cliff, traffic and congestion near the school has become a concern. That problem as well as overcrowding will be addressed by the two-storey annex that is being added to Greiner and exterior improvements to the campus.

Although the school’s address has not changed, the school’s exterior has, and a Print company will need to be supplied with a new exterior image to use in promotional materials.

Greiner Principal Yvonne D. Rojas says she isn’t worried about the classrooms not being ready in time; in fact an open house is being held to show off the school’s interiors to the community. Everyone is invited from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 20 to check out the school’s new space.

The $10 million addition’s classrooms and science lab are expected to be done in time for the first day of classes on August 24. Greiner is the performing arts academy for the district and its outdoor performance area is among the exterior projects that will likely not be finished until mid-October. Other exterior work that will continue after school starts include a courtyard and a new parking lot.
