Total Wines, one of the nation’s largest retailers of beer, wine and spirits, has submitted a special use permit to the City of Allen to build a new retail location at the Villages at Allen.
The city only recently legalized the sale of liquor, so Total Wines would be the first retailer to open a liquor store.
Total Wines is a nationwide chain and will likely mark any openings with Banners, Promotional Products, and Flyers advertising their products. The developers attended a recent Planning and Zoning meeting and provided details of their construction plans, which consist of a building that will occupy over 22,000 square feet.
The building will be located on an existing portion of a local dog park and will have a loading area that will be screened in by a galvanized wall, which is in line with other walls located in the shopping center. The development of the site will involve removing trees, so the developer has agreed to make a donation to the Allen tree farm.
Although there are still several steps that need to be taken before construction can begin, it is likely residents will welcome the opportunity to have a one-stop location where they can purchase their spirits. The Special Use Permit was approved by the Planning and Zoning committee and will go in front of the City Council at its next meeting today (September 27).
