Hike-ALOT will hold a class in Allen this April to teach people how to be safe when backpacking in natural surroundings.
Intro to Backpacking is a one-day course where students can learn about important backpacking topics from the safety of a classroom. The instructors will go over how to select backpacking locations, route planning strategies, and weather considerations for backpackers. The course will also discuss Leave No Trace principles, and teach attendees the basics of using maps and compasses. The lecture will even cover important subjects like making communication plans and safe steps hikers can take if they get lost.
Hike-ALOT is an organization that holds outdoor adventures and wilderness safety courses for hikers who live in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, or Texas. People can take classes with the group like K9 Wilderness First Aid, Red Cross Wilderness First Aid, and STOP THE BLEED. The organization also offers overnight backpacking trips. Many companies are partners with Hike-ALOT, such as the Texas Survival School and Texas Premier CPR and First Aid.
The introduction to backpacking lesson will be on Sunday, April 28 from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. The class fee for the event is $75 per student. All program participants are required to bring their own writing utensils and Notepads to the event. Hiking organizations that offer educational experiences like this may use printing services to provide Pens for their students.
