What's Happening in Allen, TX…

Allen residents who think they might like to pursue a career in firefighting, or who simply want to learn more about how the fire department operates, can sign up for the Spring 2015 class of the Allen Police Academy.

Residents of Allen can sign up for the 10-week program, and a similar class will be offered to educate residents about the workings of their local police department. However, since the classes overlap, participants must choose one or the other of these programs.

The Allen Citizens Fire Academy allows those who live or work in Allen to learn about the fire department’s hiring practices, training processes, and education requirements. The program is administered by the firefighters from the Allen Fire Department and includes and the opportunity to accompany on-duty fire fighters as they respond to emergency calls.

Applications for the Citizen’s Fire Academy are open through February 13, although space is limited to 20 participants. Classes start on February 26 and take place every Thursday from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm for 10 weeks with two optional Saturday classes also offered.

The more educated the public is concerning the workings of their fire service, the more likely fundraising efforts will be successful. This is why training programs like this are often promoted through a poster printing campaign.
