Local fire departments join together to expand training

The Allen City Council has approved an agreement that allows the town of Fairview’s new Fire Marshall to shadow Allen Fire Department members to help expedite training opportunities. Allen Fire Department is eager to share their knowledge with the neighboring department.

Fairview’s new Fire Marshall, Travis Green, has completed his required training for inspector and investigator but the city of Fairview’s Chief, Jeff Bell, realized that they do not have enough calls to provide the experience to enhance Green’s skills. That’s when neighboring Allen Fire Department stepped in to allow Green to shadow firefighters to learn more about arson investigation.

Green will also help support the Allen departed with fire prevention activities. The Allen Fire Department provides residents with station tours and apparatus displays, as well as many educational opportunities through safety fairs and classroom presentations. It is likely the department hands out Flyers with information on smoke detectors and home fire safety.

Both the Allen and Fairview departments have experienced growth in recent years and this is likely one of many opportunities to share their knowledge. While shadowing the Allen firefighters, Green will remain on Fairview’s payroll and will be covered under the cities benefits, so there are no costs to the Allen department.

Travis Green will begin his position as Fire Marshall with the city of Fairview this month. It is expected the departments will continue to work together for years to come.
