Library raises noise with trio of acts

The Annual Allen Folk Festival is being held at the Allen Public Library very soon, with three acts providing their own renditions of folk music.

Jeff Hewitt, a solo artist, performs regularly at various Dallas venues such as Lee Harvey’s, O’Riley’s, and The Green Room. According to The City of Allen website, he is known for his “unique finger-picking style and rustic lyrics”.

The duo of Judi Altstatt Allen and Jeannie Clark Fisher is known as Twice As Far. Both Allen residents, they have entertained audiences in a variety of venues throughout the Metroplex. They perform original and contemporary folk songs, as well as traditional mountain dulcimer selections.

The third act, Cactus Jack and the Outlaws, is a non-traditional folk bank. The Outlaws are described by Chris ‘Cactus Jack’ Wood, the band’s leader, as a mixture of country-folk and humor, with a twist of punk. This blending is bolstered by the band’s other members, Derrick Harper, Darrin Kobetich, Shawn ‘Ramblin’ Rose, and Sean Stewart.
