What's Happening in Allen, TX…

The City of Allen is about to hold its traditional Christmas Tree Lighting, which is the first of a variety of activities that will continue throughout the weekend.

Amidst live entertainment and a visit from Santa Clause the 20 year old traditional lighting ceremony will take place between 6:30-8:30 pm at the civic plaza this Friday, November 5. The evening ends with a fireworks show conducted from the roof of the Allen Police Department headquarters.

The event will provide photographers with plenty of shots to keep local postcard printing services busy. This year’s tree, which is 35-feet tall and has 20,000 lights, is being sponsored by Raintree Healthcare and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen.

Saturday morning will see Santa Claus still in Allen, this time at the annual Pancake Breakfast held by the Allen Kiwanis Club. Santa will be available for pictures with the kids at the breakfast, which will be held at the First Baptist Church from 7:00 to 11:00 am.

For those who finish their breakfast early, the opportunity to burn off those extra calories comes at 8:15 am with a one-mile fun run on Main Street in downtown Allen. The more competitive runners can participate in a chip timed 5K Rudolph Run starting at 8:45 am.

Now that the pre-registration deadline has passed, signing up on the day is possible for $25.
