Construction on Allens $91m visitors center underway

Recently, work began convention and visitors center in Allen after two years of planning the project.

It was designed to give the city a share of the growing convention market the state has attracted. The convention center is being built along US Highway 75.

Located near Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm – a complex that has offices, shopping, and restaurants – the center will have a 300-room Marriott Hotel, over 90,000 square feet of convention meeting space, and a garage that holds over 1,000 cars.

The building is six stories and larger than when first planned. The hotel will have an outdoor courtyard with large pool for guests, fitness center, and restaurant driven by a celebrity chef. The convention center is designed to attract large conventions and meeting planners.

Allen is contributing over $19m to this project, which comes in at $91m in total and is slated to open in October next year.

The Allen Convention and Visitors Bureau collected data for five years on groups that wanted to have conventions in Allen. The problem was there was no convention center that could accommodate these groups, and the town therefore ended up turning away significant business. The convention center is expected to attract many different businesses, from printing companies, medics, and restaurants, to retailers and manufacturers.

Allen has many Print companies that will benefit from the new Allen Convention and Visitors Center. It will give them a chance to market their services to companies that book these conventions.
