At a recent meeting, the Allen city Council decided not to raise the rates for recycling and trash collection. Costs have increased by $55,000 but the council did not want to pass those costs on to residents.
A lot of city’s likely use Mailing services of a local Print company to communicate with residents about updates in trash and recycling pickup, news and holiday schedules. It is likely they will notify residents of the increase in costs using mail communications but at the same time, inform them that those costs won’t affect their monthly service rate of $15.59. The monthly rate includes one trash and recycling can.
Had the city decided to increase the monthly rate to residents, the monthly rate would have gone up to $15.74, an increase of 15 cents per month. The increase of $55,000 is what CWD charges the city.
CWD has the contract with the city for trash and recycle collection. They adjust their rates yearly as a result of expenses related to yard waste collection and changes in the Consumer Price Index. The city will cover the increase this year using reserves in the solid waste fund.
Those attending the May 23rd city council meeting were reminded that residents have benefited over the last seven years as the city has not had an increase in their services since June 1, 2010.
