What's Happening in Allen, TX…

This month, residents of Allen will enjoy an open house at the Allen Heritage Village.

This event does not happen often, and is all about the history of the town of Allen. The Heritage Village covers different eras of the town’s history, and provides historical buildings and physical, tangible objects for people to see. In this way, the village brings people closer to history.

There are many buildings included in the village. One of the more notable buildings is St. Mary Baptist Church, which at one time served as both a church and a school for the African American population in and around Allen. Additionally, there are other residential buildings, outhouses, and land that all form the village.

The village is rather like a park, but with historical buildings and interpretive exhibits designed to help guests imagine life at different points in history. The houses have period appropriate items in them, including lighting, furniture, and knickknacks.

For non-frequent events, organizers tend to take advantage of flyer printing in order to have information ready for the guests to take home with them. Flyers or Brochures help guests remember what they have seen at the village, as well as give them something to show others.

The historical village is located at 450 E. Saint Mary Dr., and will be open to the public from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 19.
