Allen to give wilderness first aid course

The Texas Survival School will visit Allen to teach a course in February on how to survive in remote environments.

Wilderness First Aid is a program that people can take to learn advanced medical skills to use in situations where first responders may be far away. The class is designed for scout leaders, scouts, and others who spend time in remote areas. Students in the course will learn about neck injuries, joint injuries, and allergies. The program also teaches attendees about altitude-related illnesses, burns, and wound infections. Those who finish the class will get a digital certificate.

The Texas Survival School is an organization based in Royse City that teaches students how to use primitive and modern skills to keep themselves and others safe in the wilderness. All courses use a hands-on approach to teaching, and the instructors are family-oriented individuals who make the lessons accessible for children. Many classes are offered at the survival school, like Wilderness First Aid For Dogs, Land Navigation, and Wild Edibles.

The first aid program will be held from Saturday, February 3 to Sunday, February 4. Participants will leave at 9:00am and return the following day at 5:00pm. The cost of the course is $150 per student. Schools organizing similar classes to this may use flyer printing to advertise their courses to nearby families.
