The Allen Public Library will be holding a presentation in April to discuss the significance of John and Alan Lomax and their contributions to music.
Ballad Hunters and Song Catchers - John and Alan Lomax is a program that is part of the Allen Public Library’s OnStage @ APL series. Brett Voss and William Godby will present the event. Voss is a professional sports writer and columnist who has experience as a color commentator and producer. Godby is a film editor who has worked at companies such as Nick Davis Productions, Rainbow Media, and Much Music USA.
Father and son John and Alan Lomax are known for their contributions to American root music. The duo has published several songbooks, including John Lomax and Alan Lomax American Ballads. Alan also published multiple field recordings, like Deep River of Song: Alabama and Sounds of the South. He even produced a five-part series on PBS titled American Patchwork.
The presentation will be held on Thursday, April 7 at 7:30 pm. Guests can view the program live at the Civic Auditorium in the Allen Public Library or watch the show virtually. No registration is needed to attend, though seating will be limited. Libraries that put together shows such as this may use poster printing to get more patrons interested in going to the event.
