NerdWallet, the consumer advocacy site that weighs city characteristics in order to rank them, recently sought to find the best cities in Texas for young families and determined that Allen was among those premier locations.

The City of Allen was ranked third on the list of the best places for young families to settle. This was due to its ranking in categories like median household income, homeownership costs, median home values, income growth, and public school ratings. Allen did especially well in the GreatSchool rating and the medium home value, which was $197,400 in 2012.

Its position in NerdWallet’s latest city ranking gives Allen important publicity that is encouraging to not only families, but to businesses that may be considering a move to the city. The results of the site’s Best Texas Cities for Young Families will undoubtedly be included by brochure printers in Allen’s future promotional materials.

Allen is already a rising star in the Lone Star state. The Dallas suburb is about 30 minutes from that megacity and known for its culture, as well as the quality of its education. Allen’s growth rate, 29.2%, is a little higher than that of Texas, which has seen significant recent growth.

Among Allen’s appealing features to young families is its nearly 800 acres of parks and sites of historic significance, as well as the 7,000-person capacity Allen Event Center.
