Allen library to offer story experience

The Allen Public Library will set up a StoryWalk® activity in April based on the story Sharky McShark.

StoryWalk® is an engaging literary experience where families can read through a child-friendly story by walking along a set path. The activity is self-led and will begin at the flag pole outside the Allen Public Library. The story, Sharky McShark, was written by Alison Murray and is about a shark learning to become less mean with the help of a crab. There have been several stories used for the program, including The Very Impatient Caterpillar and I’m A Hungry Dinosaur.

The activity was created by Anne Ferguson and the Kellogg-Hubbard Library to promote literacy, health, and exercise in the community. More than 300 libraries in the United States and Canada have offered outdoor programs thanks to the project. Any book can be used for the program so long as the libraries do not alter the pages, and StoryWalk® activities may become a permanent or temporary addition to a library.

The Sharky McShark StoryWalk® experience will begin on Tuesday, April 4. Library patrons will be able to access the activity until March 31. There is no cost for visitors to enjoy the reading program, and registration is not needed. Libraries that offer family-friendly experiences like this may use banner printing to promote their programs to the public.
