Girls Who Code will be holding complimentary coding lessons at Allen Public Library starting in January.
Children and teens interested in learning useful coding skills can attend a multiweek program offered by the Girls Who Code organization. The lessons use fun activities and a flexible curriculum to teach participants about topics like conditions, functions, and loops. Students will also work in teams to use coding to tackle real-world problems. Those in grades 3-5 will read Books published by the organizer and complete creative challenges, while older students will work on coding projects.
Girls Who Code is a group that wishes to reduce the gender gap in the field of technology by helping young women learn more about the industry. The organization has more than 8,500 programs located around the world and has taught coding skills to more than 450,000 individuals. People can help support the coding group by starting new after-school clubs in their community and fundraising for the organization.
The free coding classes at the library will be held from January 21 to May 13. Each session will last an hour and be held in the Allen Public Library’s program room. The lessons only have 20 seats open for students. Educational groups that offer free classes such as this to children may use printing services to produce ads to send to local libraries and schools.
