The latest Texas Comptroller’s Financial Allocation Study for Texas (FAST) was released at the end of 2014, and Allen was one of only 46 school districts and charters to be awarded a five-star rating.
It is the fourth successive year in which Allen Independent School District (ISD) has achieved the coveted maximum rating. FAST ratings for the state’s 1,140 public school districts and charters are based on three criteria: academic progress, demographics, and spending per student.
Academic progress scores are determined by the results from the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STARR) testing and the Texas Education Agency’s accountability ratings. Among districts with comparable tax bases and student population, Allen ISD was the leader in academic progress while maintaining low yearly spending.
According to the Texas Comptroller’s office, Allen ISD’s met its stated goal of obtaining a “very high academic progress” designation by doing as well or better than 93% of the other 1,139 school districts in Texas. The state also excelled in managing its resources well and attained the designation “very low spending compared to fiscal peers”, for its cost-adjusted spending per student of $6,693.
