Several high school students in the advanced animation class at Allen High School had an opportunity to unveil two of their animated shorts films at the SXSW festival.
SXSW is an annual festival that features music, art, and interactive media. The event lasts several days and is held usually around mid-March in Austin.
The films, which were begun in August, were created by the students mostly during weekends and after school hours. The students might benefit from the assistance of a local printing company to advertise their achievements via Posters and Banners.
Having been called “emerging young talent”, this is the first time the students have had the opportunity to present their films at the festival. The first story, titled ‘Goin Nuts’ is about a ‘dragasaur’ who needs the assistance of a smaller critter to achieve his goal of obtaining a prize nut from the tree. It is a fun story about asking for help and making a friend along the way.
The second film is about an animator, and addresses the issues of working deadlines and being unable to obtain his drink, which is out of reach to him. In the short, he likely spends more time trying clever ways trying to reach the drink than getting up and reaching for it would have entailed.
