Tressa Stewart, in her capacity as manager of Alpha Self Storage, cast her eye about for a community cause to champion in Allen, and settled upon a food and toy drive as a logical fit.
Stewart, however, did not feel she had the experience to pull together to handle such a project. So she teamed up with Move For Hunger, a program that assists in the organization of community food drives. Additionally, they retrieve non-perishable food items that families do not wish to take with them when moving from one residence to another. So far, Move For Hunger has collected and delivered to local food banks over 5 million pounds of food.
Stewart, through Move For Hunger, was put in contact with an Allen moving company that agreed to provide Boxes to hold donations. Also they assist the drive with its promotional effort via press, social media and the use of a flyer printing service. Additionally, the company helped in procuring local sponsors to help take items to Allen Community Outreach (ACO).
Donation for the Allen Food and Toy Drive will benefit ACO. Donations of toys and non-perishable foods can be made 9 am – 5 pm on November 6-8 and November 13-15 at 307 S. Butler Drive. Stewart anticipates making the Food and Toy Drive an annual event.
