This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the Allen Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphony Chorus. The special performance will be held in the Performing Arts Center at Allen High School.
The main piece of this event is a special performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. It is based off a series of poems written in the 11th through 13th centuries. The poems deal with a variety of topics both grand and common, including the fickleness of fortune, the joy of spring and nature, and the essential characteristics of life. The poems are sung in Old French, Latin, and High Middle German.
Over 200 voices will be singing the Carmina Burana, and they come from multiple establishments including the Allen Symphony Chorus, Richland College Chamber Singer, and the Fort Worth Elementary Honor choir Select Singers.
There will also be other musical selections, including Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 5 and Concerto for Marimba and String Orchestra by Emmanuel Sejourne. The entire performance will feature distinguished soloists.
Tickets are currently on sale for this event, ranging from $10 to $25. This particular concert is designed to be accessible to both newcomers and frequent concert-goers. Events like this often use flyer printing to help spread the word about upcoming events. Parking is available at Allen High School. This event is currently scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm on Saturday, March 23.
