Gallatin museum to host local history challenge

Sumner County Museum is running a Hidden History Passport challenge this summer.

The program is designed to encourage residents of Gallatin and other towns in Sumner County to visit local historical sites. Participants need to visit the museum to sign up. The cost is $10 per passport, which includes a T-shirt and prizes at several of the tour stops. Passports will be stamped at all of the sites, and participants can return their passports to the Sumner County Museum in July or August to receive their shirt and completion certificate. Passports must be filled out by July 31 to qualify for prizes.

The stops include seven historic sites and Sumner Pediatric Dentistry, the activity sponsor. Sponsors often include Promotional Products in prize packages during community events. The historical stops are the Palace Theater, Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center, Bledsoe Creek State Park, Old Stone Bridge, Comer Barn, Durham’s Chapel and The Ole Milliken Store. The Palace Theater is the oldest silent movie theater in Tennessee, while Comer Barn dates back to the 1930s and was restored last fall. Participants will complete an interactive activity at each site. Details will be provided with the passport at the museum.

The Hidden History Passport program started on May 21 and will continue through Thursday, July 31. Sumner County Museum is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Saturdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
