Gallatin area historic site to host tea and tour

Historic Castalian Springs is hosting a 19th-century tea and fashion show in the Gallatin area this September.

As Do the Ladies in Tennessee will take place outside in Cragfont’s gardens. The fashion show, presented by fashion historian Tonya Staggs, will teach attendees about 19th-century styles that were popular in Middle Tennessee. A selection of teas and treats will be served. The event will also include a special tour of Cragfont that highlights pieces the historic site does not typically display. These include diary entries and Maria and Susan Winchester’s letters. Historic sites often use brochure printing services to share information about their buildings and grounds.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite now for $49.87 per person, which includes fees. Spaces are limited, and the organizers expect tickets to sell out soon. Parking at the historic site is free. Cragfont is one of three sites managed by Historic Castalian Springs. James Winchester initially built a fort that was home to several families on the site, and the current house was completed around 1802. Winchester later became a brigadier general and was in charge of regional recruitment during the War of 1812.

As Do the Ladies in Tennessee: 19th Century Fashion Show and Tea will take place on Sunday, September 21, from 2 pm to 4.30 pm at the Cragfont State Historic Site. Doors open at 1:40 pm.
