Summer market season begins this July

The North Providence Farmers Market is opening for the season this July, and will take place every Friday until September.

The market showcases local farms and businesses that deal in food that has been locally grown. Visitors can pick up fresh vegetables and fruit for the weekend. Among the vendors who have signed up to take part in this year's market include New Urban Farmers, Angell Farm, and the Presto Strange O Coffee.

There are special events held at each market. On July 18, there will be a Master Gardener Kiosk set up to answer any questions, and there will be a beekeeping demo on July 25.

Vendors are charged $10 for each market day. If they pay for all 10 days in advance they receive two weeks free. In order to be accepted to sell at the market, all products must contain at least one locally-grown ingredient.

All of the vendors must display a sign that gives their business or farm name, and it is up to each of them to make sure their booths are attractive and that any possible waste is disposed of properly.

Vendors, who will come from different communities in the area including Johnston, will likely be working with local printing companies to create the necessary signage.

The North Providence Farmers Market is taking place each Friday from 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm from July 11 until September 12. For more information, call 401-349-5625.
