A conservation cleanup and care session is in the works in the Johnston area for this summer, and residents who want to make a difference are invited to sign up.
The Forest Care Days is set to welcome volunteers next month who want to take a deeper dive into forest stewardship, community connection, and learning about nature. The experience is part of the Nuestros Bosques Event Series and will continue through the summer.
Organizers will bring participants together to explore the woodlands around Providence and Johnston. Other aspects will include caring for neighborhood trees and plants and connecting with local nature on a deeper level.
Volunteers will travel to different sites in the area that require more attention and work, and these efforts are designed to help urban forests grow. The benefits of these forests include shaded streets and cooler homes. Organizers can spread the word with flyer printing, with the grassroots efforts saving money and making meaningful impressions.
The experience is meant to be family-friendly, and volunteers are welcome to bring their children along to participate in helpful learning activities. All tools and supplies will be provided, as will hydrating beverages and food.
Participants will meet at 90 Salmon Street in nearby Providence, and participants are asked to dress for outdoor work. The session is set for 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 11. Registration is free online.
