A nature walk and educational experience is coming up in Johnston, and area residents who wish to enjoy the trails this spring are invited to join.
The Greenway Wild Walks: Looking Under Logs event has opened registration online, giving interested parties the chance to learn more about what lives under logs and leaf litter in Rhode Island’s forests. The walk will be led by the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council, which has announced a year-long series of family-friendly walks. The walks are designed to help attendees explore nature, science, and the habitats around them in a fun way.
Other learning points on this walk will focus on how decomposers can enrich the soil, making it more fertile for future growth. Children who join the experience will have the chance to make a salamander or axolotl. Poster printing can help organizers create colorful Posters that capture passersby's attention and spread the word about these community experiences.
The walk will proceed at an exploratory pace, covering roughly one mile over an hour. It will be held outdoors, so attendees should dress accordingly. There will be no bathroom access during the nature walk.
The walk will be held at the Woonasquatucket River Greenway in Johnston and has been scheduled for Saturday, March 28th. Attendees can meet at 2:00 PM. Tickets are available online, and registration is free.
