The North American Grappling Association (NAGA) will be holding a tournament in March at the Johnston Rec Center.
The NAGA Rhode Island Grappling Championship is an event open to children, teenagers, and adults. Participants in the competition will be divided based on weights and skill level. The skills of each athlete are determined by an interview with one of the tournament’s experienced referees. Kids and teens may pay extra money to compete in an older or heavier division. Competitors have the option of grappling with or without a gi (the traditional uniform) during their matches.
All grapplers who win their divisions will receive a NAGA awards championship belt. Children and teens in the non-expert categories will be given a custom engraved samurai sword for placing first. Second and third place winners are offered a custom medal. All NAGA competitors will get free Promotional Products during the event, such as drawstring Backpacks, stickers, or pop sockets. All gifts will be available at the tournament’s giveaway table by the registration area.
The grappling championship will be held on Saturday, March 12. Those who register for the competition by Friday, March 4 will receive a discount. All participants must enter the tournament before the date of the event. Spectators interested in watching the championship can pay $15 to attend the matches. Cash will only be accepted for spectator fees.
