The Rhode Island Ovarian Cancer Alliance will be holding a race in September at the One Citizens Bank Way in Johnston.
The Silent No More 5K for Ovarian Cancer is an event that raises awareness about the condition while celebrating survivors and remembering those who have passed away from the disease. People will get to see survivor photos at the program, and there will be vendor booths that attendees can browse. A raffle will be held after the race and closing remarks. All ages are allowed to participate in the 5K, and those younger than five can join the race for free.
The Rhode Island Ovarian Cancer Alliance is an organization that wishes to help people detect ovarian cancer sooner by providing educational resources about the condition to the public. The group also uses events to spread awareness about ovarian cancer. The alliance was formed to honor Jessica Morris and became an independent organization in 2015. People can support the group by volunteering for its awareness-raising events and fundraising programs.
The 5K will be on Sunday, September 24 from 8:00 am to noon. Those 12 and up can pay $25 to enter the race, and children ages 5 to 11 can join for $10. Discounts will be given to racers who register for the 5K in advance. Alliances that host awareness-raising activities like this may use poster printing to get others interested in attending their programs.
