Johnston farm to offer summer camp program

Gather Farm in Johnston will be holding a camp in July to teach children about the various aspects of farming.

The Gather Farm Summer Camp is an experience where kids can take part in hands-on activities and explore farm habitats. During the program, children will learn about local pollinators and how to plant and harvest crops. Other activities at the camp include walking on trails at the farm and preparing snacks from grown ingredients. The program is led by Farmer Dan, an educator with experience teaching courses like ethics and philosophy.

Gather Farm is a 10-acre regenerative farm that does not use chemicals for growing its crops. The lead farmer is Peter Campbell, a volunteer with the Peace Corps who has been working in local agriculture for more than 10 years. Many wellness programs are offered at the farm, such as yoga classes, free-form dance sessions, and seated meditation. The organization also created the ENRICHri Young Farmers Program to teach kids about regenerative farms.

The summer camp will be split into multiple weeklong sessions. The first session is from Monday, July 17 to Friday, July 21. The experience is intended for kids ages 7-11, and each day at camp will last from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Local farms that offer programs such as this may use banner printing to make outdoor ads and advertise their farming camps to the public.
