Vets honored with 5K and parade

Kingston will honor veterans with a Wyoming Valley 5K and the Wyoming Valley Veterans Day Parade.

Participating local bands, organizations, associations, and businesses in the parade have been asked to have Banners introducing their marching units or floats. Many still have time to get some banner printing done. The theme for this year’s parade will be “Honoring NCO’s and CPO’s, the backbone of our military.”

Grand Marshal for the parade will be MSG John P. Karpovich Paarng. VFW Post 283 on Wyoming Avenue will hold the pre-parade brunch starting at 11:00 am. MSG Karpovich and a U.S. Navy Admiral will be the keynote speakers.

Winners of the 2019 Military Essay Contest for grade school students from grades 4 through 12 will be invited to be part of the parade.

The parade will step off at the corner of Market and Rutter avenues at 2:00 pm. It will then go east over the Market Street Bridge and pass the reviewing stand as it goes around the Public Square. The procession will end on North Main.

A week earlier, on Sunday, November 3, runners will be lining up to run the Veteran’s Day Parade 5K, in Miner Park in Wilkes Barre. Each runner will be collecting donations that will be used to offset parade expenses. The race will begin at 10:00 am with registration beginning at 8:30 am.

The 2019 Wyoming Wally Veterans Day Parade will be Sunday, November 10.
