Kingston area continues jazz tradition

Known as "the birthplace of American's first jazz festival," the Wilkes-Barre Cavalcade of Jazz will be returning to Wilkes-Barre and the Kingston region the first week in June.

Committing to the preservation of jazz legacy and embracing its future through developing new talent and introducing American's only original music art form to new audiences, the Cavalcade has woven itself into Wilkes-Barre history over the last 75 years.

On June 6th from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, the Chandelier Hall Concert Series in the main lobby of F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts, 71 Public Square, Wilkes-Barre will present the event's featured headliner the Bill Fisell Trio. General admission will be $62.85, and seating will be first come first serve.

Bill Frisell is a world-recognized modern jazz guitarist who works Americana-infused improvisation into his genre-blending compositions. This performance will feature Tim Angulo - a New York-based composer, drummer and educator and Luke Bergman - a bassist, guitarist, producer and composer.

Other venues around town will be hosting jazz performances over the weekend.

Towns and cities that have traditional music festivals intertwined in the fabric of their history and reputations often get banner printing done weeks in advance and place Banners around the main districts.

The 2026 Wilkes-Barre Cavalcade of Jazz will take place from June 5th through June 7th in and around Wilkes-Barre Public Square.
