College students and community members will gather to honor a civil rights leader next week.
The Office of Diversity Initiatives at Wilkes University will host a Martin Luther King Jr. celebration. The event will focus on fostering a strong community and celebrating Dr. King’s contributions. Reverend Shawn Walker will make a presentation.

Celebrated on the third Monday of each January in America, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday that commemorates the life and legacy of Dr. King. King helped lead the Civil Rights Movement in the United States and wrote the well-known ‘I Have a Dream’ speech’.
