Tomato lovers attend festival

Locals in and around Kingston can enjoy four days of tomato goodness.

The 32nd Annual Pittston Tomato Festival offers guests live entertainment, food, games, and more.

Throughout the festival, bands will take the stage for performances. Printing companies have probably been busy creating Banners including band names and sponsor logos.

During the festival, there will be a variety of contests. For instance, there will be a free tomato contest where prizes will be given to the largest, smallest, ugliest, and most perfect tomatoes. For $5, kids can enter the Little Miss Pittston Tomato and Little Mister Pittston Tomato contest where participants will be judged on beauty and personality. Finally, teens, from ages 14 to 19, can enter the Tomato Festival Queen scholarship pageant.

For more fun, attendees can join in a tomato fight. For $8, participants can throw and dodge rotten tomatoes. Participants must wear goggles and be at least 15 years old. The ‘fights’ are limited to 150 people.

For $30, individuals can register for the festival’s 5K race that will take participants through downtown Pittston. Awards will be passed out to the top three male and female finishers along with individuals in each age group.

It all takes place from August 20 until August 23 in downtown Pittston. The 5K will kick off on August 22 at 10:00 am followed by the parade at 10:30 am.
