Summer replete with pair of cultural events

There will be a least two cultural-related events coming to the Kingston area this summer.

On July 11th, beginning at 5:00 pm, the rescheduled F.M. Kirby Fest - the 4th annual fundraiser for F.M. Kirby Center - will host an evening featuring six artists, four musicians, food tastings from 10 local eateries, and samples of local wines and beers. The center is located at 71 Public Square.

With the mission of connecting our area’s diverse melting pot of cultures, the fourth Annual Multicultural Parade and Festival will take place in September.

Thousands of spectators will be watching more than 300 colorful entries. Many will be members of local clubs and associations whose missions are to remember, celebrate, and pass on the cultures of their countries of origin.

From now until September, many units will be getting some banner printing done so their groups can be introduced to the crowd.

The procession usually steps off at the intersection of South Main and South Street around 11:00 am and ends at the Public Square. There, the festival with food, entertainment and music kicks off right after the parade and activities wind down around 9:00 pm.

Admission to the festivities will be free, but vendors selling ethnic cuisine from Lebanon and Poland, to India and Jamaica, along with merchandise vendors will be onsite hawking their food and items.

The Multicultural Parade and Festival will take place Saturday, September 12 in Downtown Wilkes-Barre.
