Runners get ready for July

Around 700 runners and walkers from Kingston, Wilkes-Barre, and the surrounding area are anticipating a family walk/run.

For these people, Independence Day will be celebrated with the 37th Annual Bernie’s Memorial 3 Mile Run/Walk.

Registration must be completed online at RunSignup.com and pre-registration will be $20. On race day, participants may sign up for $25 on the web using computers at the welcome center on Wilkes-Barre’s Public Square. All pre-registrants will receive event T-shirts sporting this year’s Logo Design.

Awards will be given in both the Walk and the Run to the top three female and male overall finishers and in 12 age divisions.

Proceeds will go to the ‘Your Nurse Program’ at the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA. The event organizers have a goal of $20,000 for this year to aid this program, which provides nurses to oversee exercise programs for those patients unable to afford them.

A free kids’ run is scheduled for 9:15 am. T-shirts touting the event graphic design will go to pre-registrants. All finishers will receive medals. This run will begin at the intersection of South Main Street and W. Ross and end in the Public Square.
