For three days, residents in Wilkes-Barre, and nearby Kingston, can enjoy the Riverfest 2014. Attracting thousands of people, the annual event takes place along the Susquehanna River.
Included in the schedule are activities for children, musical performances, art projects, and ‘dragon boat’ racing. Families can participate in hiking and fishing activities too, and food vendors and kayak demonstrations will also be available.
The Riverfront Parks Committee is hosting the event. The non-profit organization formed to unify the community through various recreational and environmental programs. The parks along the river are a great place to exercise, picnic, take in a concert, or go boating. The committee strives to educate people on keeping the river environment clean and usable.
Each day during Riverfest, there will be a ‘river trip’ where individuals can paddle from one local spot to another. These paddling trips are at least three hours long, and require pre-registration. Individuals bringing their own canoe or kayak can pay a $25 registration fee that includes transportation, a t-shirt, and safety training. Kayaks and canoes are also available for rental.
It’s likely the park committee has used postcard printing services to create a mailer to send out to the local community. A postcard is an inexpensive way to promote an event to a lot of people.
The festivities take place on June 20th, 21st and 22nd. For more information, call 570-825-1701.
