Residents embrace their artistic side

This month, locals in Wilkes-Barr and nearby Kingston can enjoy the ‘Fine Arts Fiesta’.

The four-day event will feature live entertainment. High school bands, orchestras, jazz, and chorus ensembles will perform. Dance groups and professional bands will be in the lineup too, and performing arts groups will also take the stage.

Kids can check out the children’s tent for puppet shows, stories, and puppet crafts. Children can also enjoy face painting and strolling performers, like clowns and nursery rhyme characters.

Each day, there will be art exhibits and demonstrations, with subject matter such as watercolors, ceramics, and mixed media art. Food vendors will be selling everything from jambalaya (Louisiana-style stew) to ice cream.

During the festival, there will be an awards ceremony. Each year, a person or organization is given the ‘Howard B. Fedrick Friend of the Arts Award' for their contributions to the fiesta and also their general support of art and culture in the community. It is likely a Stationery printing service was asked to create awards for the ceremony, since metallic embossing can give an award a prestigious look.

It all takes place on May 14 and 15 from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm, May 16 from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm, and May 17 from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm. The event will be held at public square in Wilkes-Barr.
