Public Square holds trio of events

The City of Wilkes-Barre will be holding three annual fall events in Wilkes-Barre Town Square, getting into the spirit of multiculture, Oktoberfest and Halloween.

The Multicultural Parade and Festival starts with the parade itself at the intersection of South and South Main Streets. Each float, vehicle or animal will represent a local culture, and many parade entrants will be passing out candy and have music or sound-amplifying systems. A Master of Ceremonies will be explaining each entry.

A festival will begin right after the parade. Half-hour local performances such as live music, dance groups and DJs will be on the main stage throughout the festivities.

Sponsorships are available at the $1,000 Platinum, $750 Gold, and $500 Silver levels. Each sponsorship comes with the option to participate in the parade. Many businesses like to become sponsors so they can get their Logo Design on a float in the parade.

Parade participation applications are due by August 26, with the Multicultural Parade and Festival on Saturday, September 17, starting at 11:00 am.

The Oktoberfest Celebration will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, October 1. Details still pending.

Finally, Kingston’s little ghosts and goblins can be assured that Halloween Trick or Treating on the Public Square will return this year from noon to 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 30.
